El símbolo en sí es una especie de equivalente mágico del antiguo ankh egipcio o la cruz de Rosacruz; que representa las fuerzas microcósmicas, o el Ser (en forma de pentagrama de 5 puntas) que se entrelaza con las fuerzas macrocósmicas (el hexagrama, la representación de las fuerzas cósmicas planetarias o celestiales, lo divino).
La figura todavía se usa como símbolo de su sistema Thelemic y se incluye en algunas versiones de su mazo de tarot Thoth .
